Explosives Detonated Inside 2 Portable Toilets in RI: Fire Marshal

No injuries were reported in the incidents in Westerly and Charlestown

Authorities in Rhode Island are looking for whoever detonated explosives inside two portable toilets over the weekend.

The separate incidents happened Saturday — one in Westerly and the other in Charlestown, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

No injuries were reported.

The State Fire Marshal's Bomb Squad, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and police in Charlestown and Westerly are investigating.

A spokesman for the state commerce secretary, who oversees the fire marshal's office, says the explosions do not appear to be linked to terrorist activity.

The bomb squad is offering a $5,000 reward for information about the incidents that leads to an arrest and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information is urged to contact the state police bomb squad at 401-383-7723.
