Showers and rain are returning to southern New England on Tuesday in association with an upper level disturbance, focusing the bulk of rain near and south of the Mass. Turnpike -- but also throwing at least some scattered showers as far north as southern New Hampshire.
The disturbance will hold temperatures in check on either side of 70 degrees. Farther north, a period of clouds dims the sun at times, but a nice day is shaping up for northern New England with highs reaching well into the 70s.
Showers will fade in southern New England overnight Tuesday night, ending last in southeast Massachusetts and leaving behind a light southeast wind that will carry banks of fog into the coastline, particularly the coast of Maine, with widespread lingering clouds into Wednesday.
With a light onshore wind continuing Wednesday, it’ll be tough to totally wipe out the clouds, though the deeper inland one is, the more breaks of sun we’ll see. That will provide enough warmth to bubble up a few showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the mountainous terrain of northern and western New England.
By Thursday, stronger disturbances approach New England, and this increases the potential for showers and thunderstorms, particularly inland and during the afternoon. A stronger storm center makes passage Thursday night into the first half of Friday, focusing a more widespread shield of rain and thunder.
The great news for weekend plans in New England comes behind the storm center as it departs Friday afternoon. Drier air will be poised to rush in, delivering sunshine, mild temperatures and pleasant air for the weekend.
