Rally to Support NH Restaurateur Detained in Lebanon

Supporters of a New Hampshire restaurant owner who has been detained in his native Lebanon are planning to hold a rally on his behalf in front of the business.

The rally is scheduled at 3 p.m. Sunday for Amer Fakhoury, who owns the Little Lebanon to Go restaurant in Dover. He went to see family in Lebanon earlier this month.

Lebanese authorities say he was a warden at the Khiam Prison in Lebanon that was run by an Israeli-backed militia, known as the South Lebanon Army, until Israel ended an 18-year occupation of the area in 2000. Lebanon and Israel have been officially at war since Israel's creation in 1948.

A Lebanese judge issued an arrest warrant for him. Fakhoury's family says any accusations against him are false. Human rights groups have said Khiam was a site of torture and detention.
