Relive Red Sox' 8-Run First Inning Against Blue Jays

Relive Red Sox' eight-run first inning vs. Blue Jays originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

With the Boston Red Sox offense scuffling, manager Alex Cora decided to shake things up with some lineup changes prior to Monday's series opener vs. the Toronto Blue Jays. That decision paid off in a big way.

The Red Sox put eight runs on the board in an explosive first inning. Rookie Jarren Duran, who was moved up to the No. 2 spot in the order, got the scoring started with his first MLB home run. It was a two-run opposite-field shot off right-hander Ross Stripling.

Boston followed up Duran's homer by loading the bases for Hunter Renfroe, who crushed a grand slam to extend the lead to 6-0.

Stripling's night ended early as he was replaced by Anthony Kay after only 1/3 of an inning. The Red Sox continued to pile it on, batting around and benefitting from a two-run homer by leadoff hitter Kiké Hernandez, who doubled earlier in the inning.

The Red Sox' eight runs in the first inning marked more than they scored in their entire three-game series vs. the Yankees (6).

Now that's how you snap out of a slump.
