Auburn American Legion Post Burns Down in 3-Alarm Fire

Crews fighting a fire at a Massachusetts American Legion post were ordered out of the building just before the roof collapsed.

Auburn Fire Rescue said around 8:15 p.m. that all companies had been ordered out of the building when conditions inside deteriorated during a 3-alarm fire at the Chester P. Tuttle post. All of those companies were accounted for.

"Horrible news," the post's account wrote on Facebook. "The Tuttle Post burned down tonight. Fire started in the kitchen."

Fire officials said around 9:45 p.m. that all tower ladders were ordered down due to lightning in the area.

Crews from Worcester, Charlton and Leicester all responded alongside Auburn's department.

In a tweet, Auburn Fire Rescue said a defensive operation was in progress.
