Salem Elementary School Teacher Dies in Equestrian Accident

Jennifer Chapin is remembered as a teacher who inspired her students

An elementary school teacher in Salem, Massachusetts, died Sunday in an equestrian accident, the city's interim superintendent of schools announced Tuesday.

Jennifer “Jeffie” Chapin, of Wenham, was a fourth grade math teacher at Bentley Academy Charter School. Chapin was also an active member of the school’s Family Engagement Leadership Team, according to the superintendent's statement.

Chapin “went above and beyond to inspire who students,” said interim superintendent Dr. Kathleen Smith. “Chapin had a positive, lasting impact on her colleagues and students that will not be forgotten.”

The accident took place at the Festival of Eventing in Woodstock, Vermont, according to The Salem News. Chapin was warming up for a competition when she fell from her horse.

Jennifer Chapin was 32 years old.
