‘SNL' Opens With Kanye West WH Visit; Seth Meyers Returns as Host

Seth Meyers returned to Studio 8-H this week to host "SNL" as the show went all in on mocking Kanye West's Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump

Rapper Kanye West's bizarre White House meeting with President Donald Trump and former NFL player Jim Brown was the subject of many parts of this week's episode of "Saturday Night Live," including the cold open.

"Thank you all for joining us today for this important discussion," Alec Baldwin's Trump said at the start. "It's in no way a publicity stunt. This is a serious, private conversation between three friends plus 50 reporters with pens."

He then welcomed West, played by Chris Redd, with a series of nicknames: "Yeezus" and "Yandhi," among others.

"Yeah, that's right. I flew here using the power of this hat," Redd's West said, motioning toward his bright red "Make America Great Again" hat.

And that was just the beginning of a string of rambling rants by Redd, who mocked West's monologues on social policy, inner-city crime and jobs during his White House visit Thursday.

"First, let me begin with the idea that time is a myth," Redd's West said while pointing at his watch and talking about the idea of "infinite amounts of universe."

"And I'm a prisoner in a different dimension. Have I lost anyone so far?" he continued, before going on to call the 13th amendment a "trap door."

The real West caught flack recently for saying the 13th amendment, which outlawed slavery in the United States, should be abolished.

As he ranted, the thoughts of Baldwin's Trump could be heard.

"Oh, this guy might be cuckoo," he says to himself. "I mean, I've been in the room with Dennis Rodman and Kim Jong Un, and they made a lot more sense than him!"

Redd's West spoke about Chicago's murder rate, which the real West touched on during the meeting.

"Pretty soon, it's gonna be a negative murder rate," Redd's West said. "We're gonna be digging bodies out of the ground."

"And I don't wanna brag, bro, I don't wanna brag," Redd's West later added. "But I really have a high IQ. I'm a stable genius. I got a big brain and I got the best words."

"Oh my God, he's black me," Baldwin's Trump thought to himself.

In the midst of the chaos, the camera turned to Brown, played by Kenan Thompson, who thought to himself, "Oh my lord. What have I gotten myself into? I played football with a leather helmet and my brain is still working better than his," as he listened to Redd's West talk.

"So in conclusion, 13th Amendment, Chi-Raq, trap doors lead to the uni-bomber, male energy, Trump is my dad, Hillary's a woman and the media need to start making this president look good," Redd's West said.

Then, he turned to Thompson's Brown to ask if he had anything to add.

"The only thing I did really wanna point out is that mental health in the black community is apparently an even bigger issue than I thought," Thompson's Brown said. "I mean, I've been on coalitions with Bill Cosby and O.J. Simpson and this is the first time I'm having regrets."

The real meeting between West and Trump in the Oval Office raised eyebrows, as West passionately ranted about a number of issues in front of cameras. The musician has been outspoken about his support for Trump, tweeting about the president and even launching into a passionate, off-camera rant about Trump when he was a guest on "SNL" two weeks ago.

On "Weekend Update," Michael Che and Colin Jost touched on the United Nation's somber report on climate change this week.

"That's right. Scientists basically published an obituary for the Earth this week and people were like, 'Yeah, but like, what does Taylor Swift think about it?'" Jost said.

Che said he tried to get himself to care about the report, but he just couldn't do it — despite stressing over it.

"This whole episode should be like a telethon or something, but it's not," Che said. "I think it's because they keep telling us we're gonna lose everything and nobody cares about everything. People only care about some things."

Che said if Fox News reported that in 2030 climate change would take away all flags and Confederate statues, "There'd be recycling bins outside of every Cracker Barrel and Dick's Sporting Goods."

They also spoke about first lady Melania Trump's interview on ABC, in which she said she wore the "I really don't care, do u?" jacket this summer before visiting a facility for migrant children as a message to the media.

They touched on Swift's apparent effect on voter registration this week after coming out in support for Democrats, too.

Seth Meyers also returned to the "Weekend Update" desk for a segment of "Really!?!" — a skit he used to perform with Amy Poehler on the show — about West's Oval Office meeting.

Meyers, a former head writer and performer on the show, headed back to Studio 8-H Saturday night to host "SNL." During his monologue, he discussed his time at the show and the many reasons he misses it. He also touched on West's support for Trump.

Paul Simon was the musical guest this week, performing "Can't Run But."
