Driver Crashed Stolen Vehicle into School Bus, Stole Good Samaritan's Vehicle in East Hampton: Police

A suspect accused of crashing a stolen vehicle into a school bus full of kids and stealing a good Samaritan’s vehicle in East Hampton has been located after a police pursuit through multiple towns that ended in a crash in East Windsor Monday.

Connecticut State Police said the incident began when a suspect driving a stolen pickup collided with a school bus full of children in East Hampton around 7:40 a.m.

When a good Samaritan stopped to help the children and make sure everyone was alright, police said the driver of the pickup then stole the good Samaritan's Jeep and took off. Authorities put out BOLOs for the vehicle, which was spotted in Waterbury. Waterbury officers pursued the suspect but eventually ended the chase.

State police spotted the vehicle using Department of Transportation cameras and followed it through several towns to Hartford. Troopers caught up with the vehicle near the Hartford tunnels and followed until the suspect collided with several other vehicles on Route 140 in East Windsor.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with injuries, police said. The extent of those injuries was not immediately clear.

People in the other vehicles reported minor injuries.

Authorities said none of the children on the school bus involved in the original crash were seriously hurt.

No other details were immediately available.
