Sculpture at Popular Boston Park Vandalized

Broken bricks and tiles litter the walkway of an intricate mosaic sculpture at a park in Boston's Charlestown neighborhood.

The spiral monument at the entrance of Paul Revere was heavily damaged. The Department of Conservation and Recreation calls it vandalism and says it happened over the weekend.

"I don't think it was one incident. It looks like some pieces were chipped away," said Massachusetts Rep. Daniel Ryan.

He walks through the park on his way to work, and he says he never noticed the damage until NBC10 Boston brought it to his attention.

"Hopefully, try to get to bottom of it, but most importantly, get it fixed," Ryan said.

There's a street camera nearby, but it's unclear if it picked up any of this vandalism.

Paul Revere Park is a vibrant green space along the Charles River, offering majestic views of Boston's skyline.

Along with featuring other pieces of art on the grounds, it's a popular tourist destination — an expression of beauty in Boston now reduced to rubble.

DCR says its contacted the artist and there are plans to rebuild. There is no word on when this will happen.
