Man Pulled From Water in Narragansett, RI Dies

The 57-year-old man went missing from Conimicut Point in Narragansett Bay

A man who was swept from a sand bar in Rhode Island on Saturday has died, according to Warwick fire officials.

Joseph Gillespie, 57, of Auburn, Massachusetts, was taken to Kent Hospital after being pulled from the water Saturday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Gillespie was reported missing off a sand bar at Conimicut Point in Narragansett Bay Saturday afternoon, prompting an hours-long search led by the Coast Guard.

Multiple crews joined the search Saturday afternoon, including the Station Castle Hill and Air Station Cape Cod crews, as well as partner agencies.
