‘SNL' Cast Members' Moms Reveal How They Really Feel About All the Political Jokes

“I don’t understand why everyone focuses on Trump at all, when you should be focused on Jesus,” Chris Redd’s mom said

"Saturday Night Live" cast members got to open the show this week with some very special people by their sides: their mothers. Ahead of Mother’s Day, the show featured the mothers of several cast members in its cold open — and they sure had a lot to say.

"Mom, without your help I would’ve never made it to 'SNL'," Kenan Thompson said at the start.

“Kenan, I can’t imagine this show without you,” his mother responded. “Like I actually can’t remember when you weren’t on it.”

She went on to add that she doesn’t care for the show’s political skits, and it was the start of some brutally honest revelations from the cast’s mothers who shared their feelings on the show’s jokes about President Donald Trump.

“I don’t understand why everyone focuses on Trump at all, when you should be focused on Jesus,” Chris Redd’s mom said.

“Ok, well Jesus isn’t president, mom,” Redd replied.

“And that’s the problem,” his mother said.

Meanwhile, Michael Che’s “step mom” — the “world’s proudest,” played by Melissa McCarthy — stopped by the “Weekend Update” desk to share her love and pride for Che.

As he tried to tell a joke about Rudy Giuliani, which he didn’t get through, she smothered him with praise and laughs, and even dragged Che’s co-anchor, Colin Jost, into it.

“Colin, were we cracking up or what?” she asked a straight-faced Jost.

Later on, Che convinced her to read a joke, which actually ended up being a Mother’s Day card for his stepmother.

“Did you write that for me?” she asked while tearing up as she finished reading it.

Bailey Gismert — teen movie critic played by Heidi Gardner — also stopped by to awkwardly talk about this summer’s upcoming movies, including “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” According to Gismert, both movies were pretty “fake.”

Che almost drove her to tears at one point while discussing Thanos from “Avengers” — but the conversation went a little further than just talk of movies.

“I just like have so much on my plate and I’m not trying to say that like, you guys don’t work hard, ‘cause I know on Saturdays you do,” she told Che. “But I can’t just check out. I have my finals and field day and I’m dog sitting for my pastor and they didn’t pick my prom theme, which was ‘Moulin Rouge,’ but it is not too sexual, it’s French!”

And naturally, Che and Jost addressed the biggest news of the week, like Trump securing the release of three Americans detained in North Korea.

"You know, I gotta admit, President Trump had a pretty good week," Jost said. "He helped secure the release of three American prisoners from North Korea and when he greeted them at the airport, he didn't even say, 'Wait, I thought they were Americans.'"

Comedian Amy Schumer returned to host ‘SNL’ this week and shared in her monologue that she’s been a bridesmaid in not one, not two, but six Long Island weddings.

“You know, it’s New York,” she said. “If you get engaged at 40 people are just like, ‘Woah, teen bride, like, get to know him.’”

The newlywed Schumer also joked about her husband's "worthless" proposal.

"It was such a dumb proposal," she said. "It was the morning, I was still asleep. He threw the box at me and said, 'I got you this.'"

"But that's a realistic proposal," she added.

In one skit, she mocked the popular television show “Sex And The City,” with a “Handmaid’s Tale” spin on it. In another, sticking with the show’s Mother’s Day theme, she participated in a “Mother Knows Best” game show, serving as the host for three mother-child pairs of contestants.

Kacey Musgraves was the musical guest on the show, performing the songs “High Horse” and “Slow Burn.”
