Another Storm Ahead of Christmas on the Way, But Will We Get Snow?

Monday morning's commute was a messy one, featuring snow, sleet and rain, but temperatures are expected to rebound for most around the region

Mixed snow, sleet and rain Monday morning made for messy commuting conditions but temperatures in most areas except Northern New England have rebounded enough for primarily wet roads.

Renewed showers late Monday into Monday early evening will wet the roads again just prior to a freshening wind and falling temperatures overnight tonight that will mostly serve to dry the roads but may sweep cold air in fast enough for some areas to see patchy black ice development.

Regardless, the arrival of new, cold air will mean a blustery overnight and Tuesday, with high temperatures only reaching the middle 30s south and around 30 north, but wind chill values in the teens and 20s owing to a northwest wind gusting as high as 45 to 50 mph at times.

Strong wind gusts may result in an isolated power outage Tuesday before quieting Tuesday night and leaving cool but quiet conditions Wednesday.

Dry weather prevails for most of New England until the next storm system approaches Friday, likely to come coincident with enough mild air for a mostly rain storm, though freezing rain or sleet may begin the event in Northern New England.

Showers or rain seem likely to linger into Saturday morning before we dry out again with another shot of chilly air that likely will keep us cool and dry for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, limiting the chance for a white Christmas in Southern New England, though all hope is not entirely lost, as there is one disturbance Christmas Eve Day that, while not likely to do so, could strengthen enough to provide a bit of snow.

Finger crossing may help, breath holding is not advised, we’ll keep you posted.
