Stafford School Custodian Threatened to ‘Shoot Up’ School: Police

A school custodian in Stafford is accused of threatening to shoot up a school and has been arrested, according to police.

Police said they received a complaint Friday from Stafford Middle School, reporting that a custodian, 58-year-old David Wachta, of Monson, Massachusetts, made a verbal threat against the school.

Two witnesses reported hearing Wachta say he was going to “shoot up the school,” according to state police.

On Monday morning, Stafford Public Schools were on a brief lockdown, which has been lifted.

Authorities obtained a warrant charging Wachta with second-degree breach of peace and first-degree threatening.

He turned himself in just before noon Monday and bond was set at $100,000. He is due in court Tuesday.
