Springfield Police Officer Charged With Assault, Suspended With Pay

A Springfield police officer has been suspended with pay after being charged with assault in an off-duty domestic incident.

Police spokesman Ryan Walsh says Officer Dushaine Goffe was suspended on Tuesday.

Goffe is being held without bail after being arrested earlier that day in Northampton and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation or suffocation and malicious damage to a motor vehicle.

Police tell the Daily Hampshire Gazette that Goffe was arrested at the Meadowbrook Apartments after allegedly throwing a cell phone at a woman, choking her and breaking the right side-view mirror on her car.

Walsh says the 36-year-old joined the Springfield Police Department in November, 2008.

He was arraigned Tuesday and ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing on Friday in Northampton District Court.
