Massachusetts State Police said an hours-long search prompted by a report of a woman walking into the woods off Interstate 495 with a "lifeless child" did not turn up anything.
A state police spokesman told the Boston Globe they received a call from a motorist shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday saying they saw what looked like a "lifeless" child being carried into the woods by a female party off I-495 in Mansfield between exits 10 and 11.
The reporting party later returned to the scene to be interviewed by state police.
A state police Airwing helicopter and K9 units were brought in to search the woods but nothing was found. Police cleared the area around 6:30 p.m.
Traffic in the area was temporarily backed up due to the police activity along the highway.
