Strong Wind and Rain Cause Downed Trees, Power Lines in Several Massachusetts Communities

Heavy wind and rain caused several downed trees and power lines in Massachusetts communities late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

In Newton, a large tree toppled onto the Levin's home on Brentwood Avenue causing extensive damage.

"The loudest clap of thunder I've ever heard," described homeowner Joe Levin. "It was enough that the whole neighborhood was outside in moments."

When the Levin's ran outside to check out what happened, they saw that a massive tree had smashed through their attic.

"Nobody was on the third floor. But the rooms below the walls are not in great shape and there were people in those rooms," Levin said.

The family had sleeping children in the rooms, but fortunately no one was hurt.

Strong winds were also to blame for downed trees and power lines in several other Massachusetts communities.

In Cambridge, crews spent the morning clearing large branches on Pine Street where some vehicles were damaged.

In Dedham, utility crews worked throughout the morning trying to restore power to a couple of neighborhoods where trees and lines came down.

Despite the damage there, homeowner Joe Levon said he was thankful.

"I think we were exceedingly lucky. It could have been so much worse," Levon said, referring to a downed tree.
