More than 25,000 customers remained without power across New England Thursday afternoon after strong wind gusts overnight caused many downed trees and utility poles.
Earlier in the day, more than 43,000 customers had lost power in the region.
Police in Tewksbury, Massachusetts said Thursday morning that they responded to multiple calls including one on Trull Road where part of a downed tree and two utility poles blocked the roadway.
Resident Phyllis Ford said she could hear the wind howling all night.
"It was shaking the upstairs," Ford recalled.
Several hundred people were still without power when the winds died down and the sun came up.
"We did hear a big boom last night between midnight and 1 and the electricity has been out ever since. It's about 62 in our house," said Tewksbury resident Kimberly Freitas.

The Fords, who live at the other end of Trull Road said they weren't sure long they would be without electricity this time around. One storm over the winter left almost the entire town without power.
"We probably lost close to four days counting everything," Artie Ford said.
In Upton, police said at one point, Hopkinton Road was closed from Westboro Road to the Hopkinton town line also due to downed trees and wires.
In Phillipston, Massachusetts, school officials said Phillipston Memorial School was closed for the day — also due to downed wires in the area.
No injuries were reported but police were urging drivers to use caution when traveling.
Power outages were reported in mainly New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont.
By 1 p.m., more than 5,800 customers in New Hampshire remained without power while more than 3,300 were without power in Massachusetts. In Maine, more than 4,500 were without power and in Vermont, more than 11,400 people were in the dark.
