As summer begins to wind down, a report offers a look at which New England highways have been the most dangerous in the summertime.
Interstate 95 and its offshoots feature prominently: the main road is the deadliest for summer driving in Maine, according to the report released by security analysis firm ASecureLife earlier this summer. Auxiliary highways connected to I-95 were the deadliest in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The report used data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System to find the number of fatalities from May through September in 2015 to 2017 on three highways in each state across the nation.
The deadliest highway in Massachusetts was I-495 in both directions, where 33 fatalities occurred. I-195 east had 9 fatalities.
In Connecticut, US-6 had 24 facilitates during the same time period.
On I-94 in New Hampshire, 19 fatalities were reported, while 15 fatalities were reported on I-95 in Maine.
On US-7 in Vermont, 9 fatalities were reported and on I-295 in Rhode Island, 7 fatalities were reported.

The states with the most highway fatalities from May in the summers of 2015, 2016 and 2017 were California, with 192 deaths on I-5, and Florida, with 160 deaths on US 1, according to the report.
