We could hardly ask for better weather on our unofficial kickoff to summer this Memorial Day Monday.
Temperatures reached 80° away from the coast again Monday. It’s going to change dramatically Tuesday though.
A weak front is pushing from north to south this evening, also a fog bank is moving in from the ocean. As sun goes down the clouds are increasing in most places, temperatures are falling into the 50s near the beach, it’s still mild in southern and western New England, where temperatures are in the 70s and 60s.
We should remain dry through the morning commute Tuesday. But a system that caused possible tornadoes near Chicago Monday brings cold rain to New England by lunchtime. Any severe weather stays on the warmer side of the system, which looks like it’s going to be just south of us.
With the wind from the east coming off the 55° water, our temperature will fall into the mid 50s as rain arrives mid-day and continues through the evening.
One wave of low pressure pushes east of Nantucket early Wednesday, but we likely remain mostly cloudy with low level cool air in place, with a high temperature mostly in the 60s, maybe 70° if we get any sunshine away from the beach.
Another low pressure system is going to move south of New England Wednesday night with a chance of rain from Connecticut to Cape Cod.

Rainfall amounts from the two systems combined by Thursday should be near an inch from many.
Though there’s not much change, the weather pattern we are looking at drier weather coming in from Canada later this week. So even though it’s not warm like summer, we should be able to get back into the 70s when the sun comes back.
But the atmosphere remains energized so we have to keep the chance of a shower or thunderstorm pretty much each afternoon into the weekend, which looks pretty good at this time.
