Man in Stolen Car Arrested After Police Chase Ends in Crash on I-95 in Georgetown

Officials say Steven Chaffee, 39, of Edgartown, was driving a stolen 2015 Dodge Journey when he led local and state police on a chase

A Martha's Vineyard man was arrested late Tuesday afternoon after leading police on a chase in a stolen car.

Officials say Steven Chaffee, 39, of Edgartown, was driving a stolen 2015 Dodge Journey sport utility vehicle shortly before 5:45 p.m. when he led local and state police up Interstate 95 from Stoneham to Georgetown.

State Troopers used a tire deflation device to try to end the police pursuit, causing the suspect to lose control of the SUV and crash into another vehicle on the southbound side of I-95 in Georgetown.

Chaffee tried to flee from the scene on foot but was apprehended by a State Police K9.

The suspect was taken to Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport for injuries he sustained during his apprehension.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

Authorities say Chaffee will be charged with failure to stop for police and other charges that are still being determined.

No other information was immediately available.
