Homicide Under Investigation in Lawrence

The 48-year-old man discovered on Manchester Street has not been identified

Authorities are investigating the suspicious death of a man in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Police responded to the area of 75 Manchester St. at 5:50 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a body in the street.

When officers arrived, the body of a 48-year-old man was found. The man's name has not been released.

The Essex District Attorney's Office said the matter is being investigated as a homicide.

Area resident Jose Martinez was one of the first people to come across the crime scene as he made his way into work.

"I do see things happening. It's sad to see this happening in the city of Lawrence — the city that I grew up in and I love," said Martinez. "It's unfortunate that this is happening in the area I grew up in. It's sad."

Other residents said the area has plenty of foot traffic during the daylight hours but when the sun goes down, the vibe changes.

"At nighttime, it's a different story," said another man. "There's no one around over here. Few cameras, no lights. No one comes over here so this is like a perfect area to commit crime."

So far, no arrests have been made.

The investigation is being handled by the Essex District Attorney's Office, state police and Lawrence police.
