PD: Man Arrested After Armed Police Standoff, Barricade in Blackstone

A Massachusetts man has been arrested after police say he showed a gun to officers and barricaded himself in his home.

Blackstone police say 71-year-old Edward Curtis Chandler is facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card and possession of a class C substance.

Police responded to Chandler’s home on Gaskill Street around 7:20 p.m. Sunday for a well-being check on Chandler.

As police approached his home, Chandler displayed a gun and barricaded himself in the home. Officers retreated to a safe location and called in a SWAT team.

Officers were ultimately able to enter his home at midnight, where he was arrested without incident. Police found multiple weapons and types of ammunition inside the home.

Chandler was taken to a hospital where he being evaluated pending his arraignment.

It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
