Teen Sought in Connection to Malden, Mass. Fatal Shooting

A preliminary investigation shows the shooting happened after a drug transaction

Massachusetts investigators are pleading for the public’s help in locating a teenager accused of fatally shooting a man following a suspect drug transaction in Malden.

Officials obtained a warrant for the arrest of 18-year-old Yahia Mastouri of Malden in connection to the deadly shooting of 23-year-old Jeury Batista.

He was shot Saturday evening in the area of Eastern Avenue and Bryant Street. Batista was rushed to MelroseWakefield Hospital, where he later died.

Mastouri is facing charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault with intent to rob and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The suspect was last seen in Malden the night of the shooting and stands at 5 feet 11 inches.

Authorities caution the public to refrain from approaching the suspect. Anyone who has seen Mastouri or who knows of his whereabouts is urged to call state police at 508-820-2121 or Malden Police at 781-322-1212.
