Get ready for a sultry feel to the holiday weekend, but with the humidity on the rise, it also brings the threat for afternoon and evening thunderstorms. These will be hit or miss, and mostly into north and western New England- so do not cancel your outdoor plans just yet.
A warm front traversed our area earlier today, spawning those showers for Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, and the cloud cover for southern New England. Overnight tonight, scattered showers are expected with a slight chance for a rumble of thunder, otherwise mostly cloudy. Lows tonight only slip into the 60s south, a few places into the 50s north.
Friday has the potential to see some strong to severe thunderstorms for Vermont, New Hampshire and for the Berkshires during the afternoon and evening with wind damage being the biggest concern. As far as rain/storm chances, the farther north and west from the coastline you are, the better chance you will see thunderstorms this weekend- meaning the Cape and the Islands have less of a chance to see showers this weekend. High temperatures Friday and Saturday stretch into the mid to upper 80s with a few locations into the 90s.
U.S. & World
Saturday and Sunday also have the heat and humidity with chances for pop-up storms by the afternoon Saturday, more likely by the evening on Sunday. A cold front slides through late Sunday into Monday, ushering in a slight cool down (and relief from the humidity) for Monday and Tuesday. With that being said, it looks like Independence Day Tuesday will see highs into the lower 80s under partly sunny skies and less humid. After the holiday, as everyone gets back to work, highs slip to near 80 before a warm-up by the following weekend.
