The Parade's Over. Will the Red Sox Go to the White House?

What to Know

  • Hundreds of thousands turned out Wednesday for a World Championship parade honoring the Boston Red Sox.
  • There were six parade-related arrests, including a man who allegedly threw a beer that hit Red Sox manager Alex Cora.
  • Another thrown beer caused minor damage to the World Series trophy on board a duck boat.

The parade is over. Now one question remains - will the Boston Red Sox go to the White House if they're invited?

President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski said Thursday that to his knowledge the team hasn't been invited yet.

If they are, manager Alex Cora said the team will discuss it and come to a decision.

"I've been using this platform the right way," he said. "We'll talk about it as an organization. Whatever we decide is going to be respected. If we decide to go, I will use my platform the right way."

"I know the headlines don't show it, but I respect the president of the United States," Cora continued. "I know he helped our country," he said, referencing his home country of Puerto Rico. "Whenever we have to make a decision, we're going to make it. It's going to be respected."

At least one Red Sox player - relief pitcher Heath Hembree - has alsready said he would go to the White House if asked.

"Hell yeah, I (expletive) with Trump," he reportedly told TMZ as he exited a nightclub in Los Angeles after Game 5.

During an appearance on WEEI radio earlier this week, Sox owner John Henry said he thinks the team will go if invited.
