Threats of Localized Flashed Flooding Loom Over New England

Much of New England hit 90 degrees or hotter Thursday, but when you combine that with the dewpoint in the upper 60s to 70s, then the heat index touched 100 degrees.

Not to be outdone by heat, powerful thunderstorms formed in New York and roared across Connecticut and Massachusetts. Between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., dozens of reports of damage, lightning strikes, and areas of flooding were made.

Things calmed down overnight, but the temperature stayed up. With partly cloudy skies we start in the 70s early Friday morning.

The weather pattern does not change much, except for slightly cooler air Friday. That's mostly due to more clouds and more widespread showers. Once again, we may have the threat for severe thunderstorms and localized flash flooding in any downpours that can be extremely heavy.

The most likely location for showers and storms is across inland southern New England into central and northern New England.

At the beach, fog burns off to a mix of clouds and sunshine and the threat for rain is lowest.

High are in the 80s, with dew points continuing in the 70s, keeping the feel of Florida.

Friday night and Saturday, we are watching a more organized low-pressure system come along the old stalled boundary. It may deliver torrential downpours in a more widespread area of central and southern New England. It's still a little bit out to give specifics, but we may have some damaging thunderstorms and flash flooding on going tomorrow into Sunday.

Temperatures are a little cooler 70s to low 80s, but very sticky.

Sunday is the pick of the weekend as less humid air works in from west to east. The day may start gray and damp in eastern New England, but should brighten to a partly to mostly sunny afternoon for most of the area. High temperatures are back to near 90 degrees.

Monday also may be quiet in the thunderstorm department, but it's going to be a hot one with temperatures 90 degrees or warmer.

Thunderstorms return again Tuesday and Wednesday, as we start a slight cooling trend for the middle of next week.
