Three dogs died in a hot car on Sunday, and their owner is facing charges, Jamestown police said.
Officers responded to McQuades Market Place around 4 p.m. Sunday where they found the dogs unresponsive inside the vehicle with the windows closed.
Emergency officials and bystanders attempted to revive a 4-year-old black lab, a 7-month-old black lab and a 4-year-old gray keeshond but were unsuccessful. The dogs were taken to Newport Animal Hospital where it was determined they were dead.
Police say their owner, 65-year-old Ann Garnett, of Jamestown, left her dogs unattended in the vehicle for an extended period of time. It appears the air conditioning in the vehicle was not working and the windows were rolled up.
The dogs were also not left with any water, police added.
Temperatures soared into the 90s across much of southern New England on Sunday.

Garnett was charged with three counts of unnecesary cruelty to an animal, which is a felony charge and carries a potential penalty of five years in prison and a $1,000 fine for each count. Garnett was also charged with three counts of confinement in a motor vehicle, which is a misdemeanor.
Garnett was arraigned at Jamestown Police Headquarters and released. It's unclear if she has an attorney or when she'll make her next court appearance.
