Thunderstorm Possible Later This Week as Temps Increase

Another chilly start leads to another nice day.

We have a bit of a traffic jam in the atmosphere —a powerful storm moved into Nova Scotia Monday and stalled. At the same time, a front in the middle of the nation continues to cause day-after-day flooding in the central Plains.

For New England, it’s been a high-pressure system that moved in since Saturday and it is only slowly going to ease east over the next 48 hours.

This will allow our wind to come in a little bit more from the south, allowing for a warming trend. Tuesday will turn out to be a mixture of sun and clouds, as high clouds increase this afternoon with a high temperature in the 70s. It will be coolest at the shore with a light onshore breeze.

At the seashore, there is a fairly significant groundswell that has large waves rolling in every 10 seconds or so, creating a strong rip current again Tuesday. Because it’s less windy at the beach, it is a better day for surf riders, with a low tide early in the afternoon.

The tropics are active, with tropical storm Dorian passing over Barbados and Saint Lucia overnight, perhaps intensifying to a hurricane near Puerto Rico Wednesday. It may, perhaps, weaken as it heads for the Bahamas and perhaps Florida by the weekend.

We also have potential tropical storm Erin a few hundred miles east of Hatteras, North Carolina.

That system off North Carolina is slowly moving northward, and may become absorbed by a weather front here on Wednesday. It bears watching, but right now it looks like more potential for rain than anything damaging in the wind department.

The front that moves in from the Midwest will only creep through, or pretty much fall apart here Wednesday and Thursday. That means a chance for showers and a thunderstorm with more humidity. High temperatures will be in the 80s.

Another front from Canada arrives Friday. That, too, may bring a shower or thunderstorm.

The early call for Labor Day weekend is another high-pressure system from Canada bringing in seasonable air with low humidity and a good deal of sunshine, at least to start the weekend. This is as seen on in our First Alert 10-Day Forecast.
