Towns Ban Sledding Over Liability and Lawsuit Fears

The death of a teenager sledding on Long Island, New York this week has brought renewed attention to the dangers associated with the cherished childhood activity, NBC News reported. Every year, more American towns pass sledding restrictions, hoping to avoid costly lawsuits. A 2010 study by The Center for Injury Research at Nationwide Children's Hospital found that sledding accidents led to more than 20,000 emergency room visits a year. Some parent say sled bans will protect kids, while others say research and rule-making are squeezing the fun out of childhood.
