Trump Turns to Mass. Native as Top Military Adviser

President Trump has appointed someone with local ties to be his top military adviser.

General Mark Milley, a native of Winchester, Massachusetts, will become the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff if confirmed by the Senate.

Milley graduated from Belmont Hill School in 1976, where he was an editor at the school's newspaper and vice president of the student council. He was awarded the Belmont Hill Distinguished Alumni Award in 2015, per a release from the school.

"General Milley represents the very best of the attributes of character that are so vital to the School’s mission," the release said. "We wish him well as he embarks on this distinguished new role."

Milley has commanded US forces for several tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq and has served as the Army's top officer since August 2015.
