Cops Corral ‘Ham on the Lam' in Wareham Using Dog Treats

They managed to lasso the hefty pig — it weighs 300 pounds — "using a rope and some dog treats," city officials wrote

A potbellied pig who'd escaped from his owner's house and was running through Wareham, Massachusetts, Wednesday night was caught, thanks to a bit of ingenuity, officials said.

The pig, dubbed a "ham on the lam" in a Wareham Department of Natural Resources Facebook post outlining its excursion, was spotted running down Fearing Road, and Wareham police officers responded about 7:45 p.m.

They managed to lasso the hefty pig — it weighs 300 pounds — "using a rope and some dog treats," the natural resources post said.

It wasn't immediately clear what to do with the uninjured porker, which is a dark grey and has been given the name Brady, according to the Facebook post. But its owner came forward within about an hour, which revealed that Brady had traveled about a mile from home.

"Brady was NOT pleased to be put in the bed of the pickup truck to be brought home, but he is now safely back in his pen," the natural resources officials wrote.
