Warm Weekend Ahead of Soggy Marathon Monday

A couple waves of rain will move through New England this weekend. The first wave will be tonight, the second will be Sunday night into Monday. Temperatures warm up to the 70s Saturday, 60s Sunday and Monday.

Weekend

Tonight our temperatures stay around 50 degrees with an overcast sky and slowly increase as a warm front moves in. Scattered showers approach this evening, and downpours move through between midnight and daybreak Saturday.

The showers taper off from north to south as the cold frontal boundary moves farther south. Showers linger across the south coast the longest and clouds will be rather stubborn late morning across Cape Cod. Areas that see sunshine will soar into the mid-70s. Temperatures will be in the 60s where the clouds linger. It will be a rather warm day for everyone though! Cooler air flows in Sunday with highs in the 60s and increasing clouds.

Boston Marathon

Marathon Monday will be soggy, but our temperatures are trending warmer. There could be some breaks in the rain by late morning and afternoon too. Heavy rain is expected in the morning, then tapering to scattered showers late morning into the afternoon. Total rainfall looks to be around half an inch, not quite as much as last year's record-breaking 1.57 inch of rainfall.

Some breaks of sun are possible and that may lead to instability and some thunderstorms. Temperatures go from the 40s in the morning, to the 60s by late morning. Wind will be from the south in the morning, changing to the southeast, then from the west by evening. The timing is a tad uncertain on when the breaks in the rain will be or when the temperatures jump to the 60s, so stay tuned for more updates all weekend long. Good luck runners!

10-Day Outlook

Milder temperatures will stick around through the 10-day forecast. School vacation week is next week and the dry days will be Tuesday and Wednesday with highs around 60. Scattered rain returns for Thursday through Friday as highs increase a bit. Easter weekend starts off with 60s and a few showers, possibly drying off on Sunday and near 60.
