Warmth Finally Arriving in Region, to Be Accompanied by Storm

A few hours of sunshine and warmer air is in store for us ahead of a cold front Tuesday afternoon.

We had one dry day in a row in New England on Monday and it appears we'll have another streak of one day in a row Wednesday. After a fairly nice start the morning, a breeze from the south will be joined by a few hours of sunshine to allow the temperature to top 70 degrees in many spots central and south.

A cold front working in through northern Vermont tracks south and east with showers likely Tuesday afternoon and evening.

When it rains here it may really pour, and there may be a gusty thunderstorm. Showers end in southern New England Tuesday evening, with clearing skies. Chilly air moves back in overnight, low temperature in the 30s and 40s north, 40s to near 50 degrees south.

High pressure from Canada moves in for a nice day Wednesday, with sunshine and a high temperature in the lower 60s. It will be cooler to the north and along the coast.

Yet another round of severe weather developed in the central plains on Monday, which will continue Tuesday in the middle of the nation. That expansive storm system will get into New England during the day Thursday.

However, we will be on the cooler side, so not too much in the way of thunder is expected Thursday. After a dry start, we should see rain developing in the afternoon and at night, temperatures in the 50s, falling back into the 40s has rain arrives.

Low pressure will drive into New York State Friday, pushing a warm front across southern New England. That means rain could be heavy at times with more than an inch possible. We make get into the warmer sector Friday afternoon, that means the possibility for thunderstorms in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Temperature mostly in the 50s but may jump to the 60s south late.

Low pressure should pull out of the region Saturday with increasing sunshine, and temperatures on the mild side in the 60s. Another storm will be crossing the Midwest this weekend, but hopefully will wait until after we enjoy mild and dry Mother’s Day.
