Intruders Held 6-Year-Old Boy and Father at Gunpoint During Home Invasion

Waterbury police are looking for two men who held a 6-year-old boy and his father at gunpoint during an armed home invasion on Saturday night.

The boy and his father were home and expecting company when they heard a knock at the door and opened it, police said.

But, instead of seeing friendly faces, they were confronted by two men — who were each armed with a handgun.

One intruder held the frightened boy and father at gunpoint as the other cased the home for jewelry and video games, police said. The incident lasted "a matter of minutes" before the robbers fled, according to Waterbury Deputy Chief Fernando Spagnolo.

Spagnolo said the boy and his father "did the best they could to support each other during, throughout, these few moments of terror that they experienced."

The victims of the home invasion are still traumatized, but are otherwise unharmed, according to police.

Surveillance photos captured the image of one intruder lurking outside the home and police have released the images in the hopes that someone will recognize the man and help them identify the suspects.

Neighbors are unsettled about what happened.

"People were home and someone was bold enough to do this," said neighbor Renee Robichaud. "It’s more alarming to know that there are people doing it when you’re home."

"All of our homes, all of our lives are at stake and we need to be a strong community and protect each other," Robichaud added.
