Weather forecast

Mild Tuesday Ahead of Another Round of Wet Weather

It seems safe to say this is the nicest stretch of weather so far in 2018.

We realize that there were a couple of warmer days in February, but that doesn't count. With the sun setting after 7:30 p.m. and rising before 6 a.m., and no snow in the forecast, we have really turned a weather corner.

With dry air Monday night, some of the rural locations cooled to the upper 20s and lower 30s with patchy frost early this morning otherwise most of us start with a clear sky and about 40 degrees.

High pressure moves just far enough offshore that our wind should come in from the south, with sunshine giving way to thickening clouds. High temperatures are near 70 degrees inland and a bit cooler along the south-facing shore with the wind coming in off the ocean at 10 to 20 mph.

Slow-moving low pressure over the mid-Atlantic states pushes an area of rain and fog in early Tuesday.

Rain may become moderate to heavy at times by afternoon, high temperature holding in the 40s in the north and 50s in the south.

Rain should taper to fog and drizzle for most of us Wednesday night, with temperatures holding near 50 degrees.

Thursday and Friday we are underneath an upper-level low-pressure system, with some instability clouds and showers, and a high temperature back in the 60s, but with higher humidity this time.

Although the weekend is a tough call, it looks like a front from Canada may come through Friday night and early Saturday with a few showers and a thunderstorm. This will be followed by gradual clearing and cooling for the second half of the weekend.
