Couple Charged After Child Is Injured Performing ‘Punitive' Exercise

A New Hampshire couple is facing charges of child abuse in connection to an incident earlier this year at their Winchester home.

Police said an investigation by the Department of Children, Youth and Families began after an allegation of child abuse in February.

According to the report, the child's father had the child "perform an exercise for punitive reasons" and the child was injured.

Neither the father nor the stepmother sought medical attention for the child, according to officials.

An arrest warrant was issued for both parents, who turned themselves in to police May 1.

The couple was released on a summons to appear in Keene District Court at a later date. They will each answer the charge of endangering welfare of a child or incompetent. Their names were not released by police.
