Woman Assaulted on Bike Path in Mattapan, Police Searching for Attacker

A woman was assaulted Tuesday afternoon as she walked on a bike path in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood, authorities said.

The 46-year-old woman was near the Ryan Playground on River Street when she was attacked shortly after 2 p.m., state police said. She was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with laceration and contusion injuries.

The woman from Dorchester has since been released from the hospital.

Police are looking for a man in his 20s who is 5 foot, 10 inches tall with black hair worn in an Afro style about 3 inches high.

The man, who was wearing a navy blue long sleeve shirt and navy blue sweat pants, fled the scene towards River Street through the playground parking lot.
