Woman Connected to Killing of Boyfriend's Parents Accepts Plea Deal

The girlfriend of a Connecticut man who is accused of killing his parents after they threatened to cut him out of their wills was in court Friday for a pre-trial hearing and has accepted a plea deal, according to the clerk's office.

Jennifer Valiante was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and obstruction of justice in connection with the deaths of Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin, an Easton couple whose bodies were found buried outside a vacant house in Weston in October 2015, two months after they disappeared.

On Friday, she pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution, which will carry an eight-year prison sentence rather than 10, followed by five years of probation.

Valiante's attorney said she has spent two years in prison and will have six more to go on her sentence.

Prosecutors say she knew about, or even helped her boyfriend, Kyle Navin, plan the murders of his parents.

“The law of conspiracy requires you to enter into an agreement with another to do something wrong. There was no agreement, but a jury might have concluded there was based on the text messages and the hostility between the parents and the son and based on her cleanup efforts afterwards,” Norm Pattis, Valiante’s attorney, said.

In August, Valiante was ordered to provide investigators with finger and palm prints and her attorney said prosecutors wanted to compare them to prints found on a checkbook belonging to a business owned by Navin’s parents. Evidence showed her fingerprint on the checkbook and she was suspected of forging the mother's signature.

Kyle Navin has pleaded not guilty to murder charges in the deaths of Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin. He is due in court on Dec. 6.

Valiante has denied any involvement in the deaths.

Court documents say Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin were upset about their son's behavior and drug use and planned to cut him out of their wills.
