Woman Found in Water Off Cape Cod Has Died

A woman whose body was found floating in the water off Kalmus Beach in Hyannis, Massachusetts has died, according to the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office.

The woman, who officials say is in her 60s, was discovered at about 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday by a bird watcher, according to Barnstable Police Sgt. Eric Drifmeyer.

Officials rushed the woman to Cape Cod Hospital, where she later died. Her name has not been released.

Authorities said she appeared to have been in the water for quite some time and they were worried about her wellbeing due to the icy temperatures.

"It's icy, the rocks are slippery, if you take a walk on the jetty... certainly enjoy yourself on the beach but always be cautious and be aware," Drifmeyer said.

Authorities are continuing their investigation on how the woman ended up in the water. They say they don't believe foul play is suspected.
