Police: Suspect in Somerville Hit-and-Run Turns Self In

The main suspect in a hit-and-run in Somerville that left one woman dead has turned himself in, police confirmed Sunday.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. Saturday night on Mystic Avenue southbound, near the Stop and Shop. A preliminary investigation suggests the victim was walking on a crosswalk when she was struck, state police said. The vehicle didn't stop but continued southbound.

The victim, a 50 or 51-year-old woman, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation said the vehicle may have been a Mercedes, that most likely has front-end damage, probably on the passenger side.

Police are no longer asking for the public's help with the investigation. The suspect was identified after an interview conducted by state police.
