Tufts Medical Center Doctor Killed by Falling Piece of Ice While Hiking in NH

Officials say falling ice struck and killed a Massachusetts woman who was hiking with her family in New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department says the 57-year-old Wellesley woman was injured around noon Sunday. Tufts Medical Center says the victim is Dr. Judith Pinsker, who worked for the hospital for decades.

The woman was hiking with a group of 10 people on the Frankenstein Cliff Trail in Hart's Location when a falling piece of ice struck her in the head, officials said.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene and the woman was taken to a hospital where she later died.

Authorities did not release the woman's name, but Tufts Medical Center identified her as Pinsker in a letter to employees.

"Dr. Judith Pinsker has been an outstanding physician at Tufts Medical Center for more than 20 years," the hospital said in the letter. "There are no words at times like these. We will be keeping Dr. Pinsker and her family in our thoughts this holiday season. We know you will be, too."
