Worker Dies After Getting Pinned Between Equipment, I-Beam

A 27-year-old man was killed in a construction accident in Gloucester, Massachusetts, on Thursday morning.

The man was found dead at the home of 23 Nashua Ave. when police and paramedics responded to the scene around 9:30 a.m., according to a spokesperson with the Essex district attorney's office.

The victim's name has not been released, but the Essex DA spokesperson said foul play is not suspected.

The man, an employee of MD MacEachern Landscape and Construction, was using a mini-excavator to dig out part of the foundation of the Nashua Avenue home, which is supported by a series of I-beams to help the foundation work.

Investigators said the man, who was working by himself at the time of the apparent accident, was found pinned between the mini-excavator and an I-beam. Something may have caught on the elevation lever of the equipment, according to investigators, which resulted in the worker being fatally pinned.

In addition to police, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration responded to the scene.
