The Boston Red Sox once again handed the New York Yankees a demoralizing loss at Fenway Park with a thrilling comeback Sunday afternoon.
The Yankees hadn’t surrendered a hit and led 4-0 entering the eighth inning. And that’s where it all fell apart for New York.
Domingo German had his no-hitter broken up by Alex Verdugo's double leading off the eighth inning. German was lifted after the hit by manager Aaron Boone.

Matt Barnes picked up his 21st save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning as the Red Sox emerged with a 5-4 win.
It was the second comeback victory of the series for the Red Sox. They also staged an exciting comeback in Thursday's 10-inning win. Yankees manager Aaron Boone called that loss a "gut punch."
German, who missed all of last season serving the remainder of an 81-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy, made his 17th start. He hadn't gone beyond 5 2/3 innings in his last eight, and his previous season-high was seven innings, which he'd done twice. Mixing his well-spotted fastball in the mid-90 mph range with a changeup and curveball, the 28-year-old German struck out 10 and walked just one.
The last no-hitter at Fenway by an opponent was by Detroit's Jim Bunning on July 20, 1958, when he retired future fellow Hall of Famer Ted Williams on a flyball for the final out. The last Yankees pitcher to no-hit Boston was Dave Righetti at Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1983.
The Red Sox now lead the Yankees by nine games in the American League East standings, but their advantage over the second-place Tampa Bay Rays is still only a single game.
