A new playground in New Bedford, Massachusetts has been opened to honor the life of slain Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon, who was killed in the line of duty last year.
An official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Thursday at Sgt. Sean M. Gannon Memorial Playground at Elwyn G. Campbell Elementary School. Gannon grew up across the street from the school.
Gannon was shot and killed on April 12, 2018 when he was serving a warrant at a Cape Cod home. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital, where he died. Gannon’s K-9, Nero, was also shot and underwent emergency surgery. He has since recovered.
