1 Dead in House Fire

Vermont State Police are investigating a fatal fire in the town of Halifax.

On Thursday around 1:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a house fire at 2978 Reed Hill Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found the home was already fully engulfed in flames.

When the fire was extinguished around 3:30 a.m., it was determined that one of the tenants of the home was missing. The State Medical Examiner's office will perform an autopsy on the body. The victim's identity has not been released.

The other resident made it out of the home safely.

Damages have been estimated around $100,000. The home was determined to be a total loss.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.
