1 Injured in Shooting at Former Hospital

Officials say one person was injured in a shooting involving a police officer at the former site of MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, Maine.

The Maine Attorney General's office is investigating an incident where an officer shot a person at the former MaineGeneral building in Augusta, according to NECN affiliate WCSH.

Augusta Police have confirmed the man shot was 36-year-old Jason Begin.

Augusta Police said Officer Laura Drouin responded to East Chestnut Street to help DHHS mental health professionals who needed assistance transporting a patient to the hospital. After the office made initial contact, the shooting occurred in the outpatients services area of the Maine DHHS offices.

Officer Drouin was not injured Begin was taken to MaineGeneral for treatment. Begin is currently listed in stable condition.

The Maine Attorney General is investigating, which is standard procedure. Officer Dourin has been placed on administrative leave with pay.

The building where the shooting occurred houses doctors' offices and Maine Department of Health and Human Services offices.
