North Providence police have identified a man who was killed in a reported home invasion that also injured a woman identified by relatives as the man's mother.
Officials say 26-year-old Richard Catalano was shot to death at a home on Eliot Avenue late Sunday night.
Police say a woman also was shot and is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital. Authorities say she is expected to survive. Family members say she was shot in the face.
Police said they detained a person of interest at the scene, but officials didn't release details. No arrests have been announced.
Catalano's death was the first homicide of the year in North Providence.
