One person was killed and another injured in an overnight house fire in Panton, Vermont.
Authorities say 63-year-old Muriel Neel died inside her home on Route 22A.
Her husband Harold Neel made it out safely, but investigators say a family friend, Susan Idle of Waitsfield, who was staying with the Neels was injured.
She was rushed to the Unversity of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington with second and third-degree burns.
State police say Muriel Neel's body was found in the bathroom.
"Sometimes people become disoriented and they can't find their way out due to smoke and heat. So that's still under investigation as to exactly why, but it's not uncommon for people to become disoriented during fires," State Police Det. Sgt. Todd Wilkins said.
Firefighters reported strong winds Monday morning made the flames move quickly.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but police say it does not look suspicious.
