1 Person Killed in 2-Car Crash in Brockton

One person was fatally injured in a two-car crash in Brockton, Massachusetts Friday night.

The accident happened just before 7:30 p.m. on East Street. At 7:22 p.m., Brockton police received multiple phone calls reporting a car crash at 566 East Street. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found a crash involving a blue truck and a red sedan. 

The driver of the red sedan, identified as 54-year-old Jorge Leite of Brockton, had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to a press release from the Plymouth District Attorney. Leite was taken to Brockton Hospital before being transferred to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, where he died from his injuries just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

The driver of the blue truck was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton with non-life-threatening injuries. His name is not being released at this time. 

The accident occured when Leite was turning into his driveway and a truck passed on his left side and hit his car, according to Lt. Ken LeGrice with the Brockton police.

It's unclear if the truck driver will be cited.

The crash is under investigation by the State Police Detectives under the Plymouth County District Attorney Office.
