Victim Thrown From Vehicle, Killed in 2-Car Crash in Weymouth, Massachusetts

Massachustts State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened Sunday evening in Weymouth.

The accident happened just after 5:40 p.m. on Route 3 southbound, prior to exit 16 in Weymouth.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a 65-year-old Marshfield woman, driving a 2003 Ford Explorer, lost control of her vehicle and then hit a Honda CRV, causing her vehicle to roll over. She was ejected from her vehicle and transported to South Shore Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

It's unclear why the woman, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, lost control of her vehicle.

The 66-year-old man driving the CRV was uninjured in the accident, as were his two passengers.

A trooper who was stationary on Route 3 northbound at the time of the accident witnessed the crash.

The southbound right travel lane was closed in the aftermath.

State Police were assisted by Weymouth Police, Fire, and EMS.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
